Sirach 6:5-17
Psalm 119:12, 16, 18, 27, 34, 35
Mark 10:1-12
A reflection on today's Sacred Scripture:
This gospel about a man divorcing his wife may seem very troubling in light of all the "what if" scenarios. Yet, if we listen to what Jesus says, we can discern its central truth and learn a holy response.
The central truth is that marriage is intended to be forever and the consequences of not preserving its bond are serious.
Our fallen nature has often landed us in seemingly untenable circumstances and the only true and lasting remedy is to present ourselves to the authority of Christ's Church and the outflow of its grace.
If we do that, we can be certain that no situation will be untenable. The loving mercy of God, meant for all situations and circumstances, will be present, will give us direction, will bolster our courage, will sustain our hope and will teach us to love.
